Guira oga

The Guira Oga is an animal rehabilitation centre with many species of animals that have been rescued from accidents or neglect. Some of the species here are in danger of extinction and there is a breeding program in place in order to save the species.

The park has many bird species such as vultures, toucans, eagles and parrots as well as ant eaters, raccoons, monkeys and a lone Cayman. The purpose of the rehabilitation program is that eventually the animals can eventually be set free back into nature.

Every animal has a very interesting story, such as the thieving pet vulture that had been rescued from the police after having spent 3 nights in prison! Or the bird that had had its lower beak shot of by a hunter and now has to be hand fed, until lower beak prosthesis is made.

The tour around the centre takes around 90 minutes and is partially by tractor and partially on foot (even and good paths).

The entrance fees were 30 pesos for adults and 15 pesos for children (including the guided tour!)
